Great Buddha - Todai-ji Temple

After walking another 20 minutes or so through Nara Park, we came to the Todai-ji Temple, which houses the Great Buddha structure.

"Great Buddha of Nara belongs to the Todai-ji Temple. This temple is located in the ancient capital of Nara, which is in Nara Prefecture, just south of Kyoto. The construction of Todai-ji, was completed in 752 with the aim, not only to house.

Great Buddha image, but also to consolidate the position of the city as the capital and powerful center of Buddhism. The Great Buddha Hall, called “Daibutsu-Den”, the main hall of Todai-ji, was rebuilt several times. The current structure, completed in 1709, is only two-thirds of the original size, but is still the largest wooden building in the world."

These guys are the guards outside the temple. They are enough to make me behave!

My mom joins in the incense burning for purity and cleansing of certain areas of the body.

And here is the Great Buddha statue. It's big!! It is 57 meters wide (approx 187 feet), 50 meters deep (approx 164 feet), and 48 meters tall (approx 157.5 feet).

We stopped at a gift area on the way out of the Temple, and my mom and I purchased our fortunes for 100yen. The man behind the counter spoke very good English, by the way!
