Vending Machines Abound
I read in two different travel books that the ratio of vending machines to people in the city of Tokyo is 20 to 1. One vending machine for every 20 Tokyoites. The population of Tokyo itself is over 12 million people! That's insane. And even crazier (to me) is that with all of these vending machines around, no one eats or drinks on the streets of Tokyo.
Apparantly it is just short of taboo to do so. Except for ice cream. Huh? Wonder why that is. Guess you can't transport ice cream to where you want to eat it, now can you?
