About Blog

Instead of bombarding our friends & family with mounds of pictures every single day I've created this blog.

You can access it anytime of day or night, & when you get bored reading my commentary, you can always look at the pictures & go about your day.

You can expect at least a post a day most every day, including pictures, so refresh often! Also, be sure to sign the guestbook (located here) to let us know you've visited.

Small Town Calmness in Nishi-Shinjuku

Today, we walked around another area near our hotel. We crossed over toward Shinjuku Chuo Kyoen, then just kept walking. We passed a huge drive-thru McDonald's, multiple convenience stores, and about that time I noticed it had gotten quiet. Small town quiet. Without the horns blaring, trucks rumbling, trains swooshing by kind of sounds you hear every second in the city. It was the most amazing feeling, to turn all around and have a serene, "homey"feeling surround you in this little, quaint area, only a few blocks from the craziness of Shinjuku.

After roaming the streets here for calmness, we headed to our initial destination, Shinjuku Chuo Kyoen (Shinjuku Central Park). This has become our home away from home, with visits to this park 3-4 times a week.

The little blue and pink tricycles were out for the toddlers, so we headed over to check one out. The blue ones have Shinkansen (bullet trains) cartoon characters all over, and the pink ones are Hello Kitty. I saw a dad sign out a bike for his little girl on a notebook full of paper near the bikes.
Eek!

I cautiously approached and looked down, and sure enough it was all written in Japanese. Eek again! I really must at least learn the characters for our last name. *sigh* So I scribbled my name (in English) with cheeks red, and answered the other questions as best I could (hey, I know that means time, because that's what the guy in front of me wrote), then I realize there is no ink in the pen. All that stress for nothing, as they can't even see my answers! haha

Soon Andrew was zooming (well, somewhat) around the stone water area blocked off for the little ones during the day.
